HRC62 Side Event on the Human Rights Implications of Environmental Crime

On 3 July 2026, the Geneva Human Rights Hub co-organised with the World Wide Fund for Nature a side event during the 62nd session of the Human Rights Council on the Human Rights Implications of Environmental Crime, co-organised in collaboration with Earthjustice, UNCAC Coalition, Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), Geneva Human Rights, Biodiversity and Land Task Force (GeHRBiL), Geneva Environment Network (GEN), Global Initiative against Transnational Organized Crime (GI-TOC) and Wildlife Justice Commission (WJC). The event took place at the Palais des Nations and brought together experts, representatives of Member States, international organisations and civil society to discuss the links between crimes that affect the environment and human rights.

The discussion explored how environmental crime relates to issues such as the right to a clean, healthy and sustainable environment, the rights of affected communities, and emerging international policy responses. A recording of the event is available below.
